Goat Rock Ranch: Herd Selection

Saturday we headed to Utopia, TX to pick out our herd of goats.  There's never been a girl more excited.  They kids were wound up, too.

Mr. Redden, who owns the goats and has answered countless questions of mine over the phone, was out of town, so Mrs. Redden was there to greet us and help us choose our herd.

She was so nice, patient, and knowledgeable which added to our fabulous time at their place picking out goats.

We were in the market for young female goats who had not yet had their first kid or "nanny kids," as Mr. Redden told me.  The ones he had for sale ranged in age from 8 months to 2 or 3 years of age.

Here we are just as Mrs. Redden was crowding them at one end of the pen so we could start choosing.
SK LOVES the goats and wanted down to check out the rest of our options.
I wish you could see her face well in this picture or that I had a video.  She just clasped her hands and squealed with delight at all the goats.
J & L each got to pick their own.
Mrs. Redden also "toothed" them so we could see the difference in teeth between the ages of goats.  Pretty interesting!

The goats will be delivered to our ranch on Tuesday morning.  Rest up, girls, you're headed to the circus!
