Pigtails, Shmigtails

There's this friend of mine who has a little girl with LOTS of hair.

For months she has tried to figure out this whole baby-with-lots-of-hair thing, soliciting advice from anyone and everyone who'd ever had a baby girl with hair.  "Get those tiny rubber bands," they told her, "they work really well."

The baby's hair was long enough for pigtails very early so she began looking for those tiny rubber bands and one day, much to her surprise & delight, she found some on clearance.  She was ecstatic and so she bought 2 packs of 100 each; one clear and one multi color.

After 2 months of waiting to try them out, she finally opened one pack-the colorful ones and geared up for the inaugural pigtail.

She should've known when the little purple one she tried first cut off the circulation of her index finger that something was not right.  Alas, she was new to this entire thing and so she pressed on.

And if she'd tried it a few more times she would've no longer had to worry about having a baby with lots of hair since most of it would've been ripped out by the rubber bands.  Also the baby probably wouldn't have spoken to her for the next 10 years.

The rubber bands were put on a shelf (as were any plans to try pigtails again) by one confused momma for the next couple of months until one day she finally took a closer look at the packaging only to find that the ones she'd purchased were for African American hair which, as everyone else on the planet knows, is not the same as fine Caucasian baby hair.

This was good news and bad news, for the momma now knew she wasn't completely incompetent.  Or was she?  You could look at it either way.

The happy ending to this story is that the momma eventually did find the correct rubber bands at HEB of all places and has almost mastered the pigtail process, much to her relief.
Maybe soon she'll even try two!

Barb,
I love the Pebbles pigtail. I had a Pebbles doll and I cannot wait until you and Sadie can wear your pigtails together.
Remember when Ma used to buy a bolt of material and could make all the girls matching dresses and bows and the boys shirts and even perhaps a tablecloth on Little House on the Prairie? Oh that will be the day to have family pics made. How very special! Can't wait to see you at your Dad's. Dibs on Sadie Kay. I have so much to teach her.
Love you,
